Prevent Scale Formation in water pipes and appliances

Around 65 per cent of British homes mainly in the south east and the midlands have hard or moderately hard water. This type of hardness is generally the result of a high concentration of magnesium and calcium salts, resulting in soaps not dissolving properly and the formation of scale around tap nozzles and inside kettles. Any hard water that dries for example on a work top will leave a crust of salt behind, forming scale at high temperature. When scale forms inside a domestic boiler or hot water cylinder it causes a layer of insulation which shields the water from the heat and wastes fuel, eventually blocking pipework. Barnet Plumbers are experts in this field.

There are a number of ways of limitation and prevention for this problem:

1). Controlling your hot water temperature (Scale begins to form at temperatures in excess of 60 degrees C).

2). Introduce scale inhibiting crystals that are suspended in the cold water cistern. ( these crystals will need to be changed at intervals of 6 months).

3). A more expensive way of control would be to plumb a water softener into the rising ware main-beyond the kitchen tap with a branch to an outside tap. This process will still leave hard water for drinking purposes as most people prefer this. It would not be worth softening water for use in the garden.

4). The last option would be to plumb in something that appears to be high tec, called a magnetic water conditioner. This is plumbed into the rising water main above the main stopcock. Once fitted this piece of equipment will allow water to pass through a magnetic field and in doing so the field will, through a reaction process alter the structure of the scale forming salts. The salts change into fine particles that will flush through the pipes freely instead of forming a blockage. This equipment requires an onboard filter that requires cleaning every 6 months.
