How to Install a Toilet
Check for breaks on the new piece. If either the flange or floor is worn or damaged, make repairs before carrying on. Completely remove residue from the old wax ring. Place a rag-in-a-bag into the opening to block odors. Barnet Plumbers can carry out all plumbing work guaranteed.Remove the wax ring and apply it to the underside of the bowl, around the horn. Remove the protective covering. Do not touch the wax ring. It is very sticky. Lower the bowl onto the flange, taking care not to disturb the wax ring. The holes in the bowl base should align with the tank bolts. Add a washer and tighten each bolt. Hand tighten each nut and then use channel-type pliers to further tighten the nuts. Do not overtighten!Attach the toilet tank. Many of these tanks have a flush valve and a fill valve already fitted. For models that do not have this, insert the flush valve through the tank opening and tighten a spud nut over the threaded end of the valve. Place a foam spud washer on top of the spud nut. A Barnet Plumber can carry out all plumbing work professionally. Adjust the fill valve and set the correct water level as recommended by the manufacturer. Install the valve inside the tank. Tighten the nylock nut that holds the valve to the tank and then tighten it further with channel pliers. With the tank laying on its back, place a rubber washer onto each bolt and insert it into the holes from inside the tank. Now, put a brass washer and hexagonal nut onto the tank bolts from underneath and tighten them just more than hand tight. Position the tank on the bowl. Put a rubber washer, followed by a brass washer and a wing nut, on each bolt and tighten them up evenly. Tighten the nuts by hand. Too tight will crack the tank. The tank should be level and stable. Fit the water supply by connecting the supply tube to the threaded filler valve with the coupling provided. Switch on the water and test for leaks.
